Raising $$$ for Swampscott Public Schools and working with the community to recycle & reuse!
Big Blue Bargains was organized in 2009 with the purpose of raising money for the Swampscott school PTA/PTO’s through the sale of donated items. The store officially opened in January of 2012 on the ground floor of the middle school in what was previously a classroom for metal shop. The store is supported by donations such as clothing and shoes for men, women and children, jewelry, pocketbooks, wallets, giftware, housewares, sports equipment, and small furniture. The store also benefits the Swampscott Community by providing residents a way to recycle and reuse items locally that may have otherwise been thrown out or sent to another charity.
Each school is assigned a week to volunteer based on a 5 week rotating schedule. The store is open on Wednesday 8:30-10:30 a.m. & Saturday 9:00 a.m.– 1:00 p.m. Each school has a point person on the PTA/PTO who oversees organizing the volunteer schedule. There needs to be at least 2 volunteers from each school when the store is open. Profits are split between the 5 schools based on the number of hours each individual school worked and are used towards cultural enrichment programs.
